Lions sleeping in the afternoon, Masai Mara NP, Kenya. Sons of Notch, a famed Lion of the Mara, these are two of the five brother members from the Marsh pride which was scattered among this zone that day. This pride has a reputation for being fierce and tenacious, with the males being particularly massive. About ten of its members were poisoned, and at least three killed in Dec. 2015; Maasai herdsman allegedly planted the body of a dead cow laced with poison in response to an earlier lion attack on their herds. Human-lion conflict in the region has been on the rise as land subdivisions and privatization reduce grazing land for cattle. At night, some Masai are known to allow their cattle into Masai Mara National Reserve, where the grazing is better—and illegal. Will post color version next. via 500px http://ift.tt/2aWzUvj
